NOEO e WALLS |Where are the humans? Clinical psychology and psychosocial intervention

Who are the NOEO? Which is the connection between psychologists and WALLS? And with contemporary public art? We let them speak to introduce themselves and explain what will be their role in Trame_Trasmissioni of memory, then follow us and from project to project we’ll show you the strength that can acquire our work and our mission when accompanied the scientific method. A new journey with NOEO that will bring us as usual in connection with communities, territories and art.

“If you think to the psychologist as to the bizarre character armed with a cot and notebook, that’s not us. Not so much for the bizarre, but on bed and notebook will have something to say.

Psychology is for us a science of intervention, intervention that has as its object the relationship between man and environment within different systems of coexistence and aims to develop the system of coexistence itself. In this perspective, therefore, the psychologist works on and with reports even when sitting in front one person.

We try to explain better defining who we are and what we do:

NOEO want to interact and integrate with other professions, valuing the contribution that different perspectives can bring in the intervention within different contexts: organizations, territories, groups and individuals. But what have in common these realities? Systems are built and supported by relationships, products and tools of social life that produce cultures, myths and specific types of relationship. As psychologists it’s where we start, learn to intervene, tracking resources from which make possible alternative ways of relationship, a job roundtrip between reality and symbolically.

There are many points of contact and connection between our work and Walls. We think that art is a powerful language, thanks to the aesthetic and emotional experience that allows, can be an instrument of territorial development where the artist is the interpreter of a district in order to give voice to those iconographic narratives, explicit and implicit, which organize the live in that specific urban locality.
Indeed part of the goal and of the psychosocial intervention is to explore the way of functioning of the system of coexistence because it’s only through it that we can activate the change. We consider the artistic product as an expression of stories, narratives and plots of the district and so, as a pretext to reflect on them. The stories are the means to understand the subject’s relationship with the places and the environment to which he belongs. They reveal the identification processes, assumptions and attributions of meaning and value. For this reason NOEO reputates possible and intervention that links psychology and art, but where the artistic language is conceived as text and pretext, where the work becomes a powerful tool capable of moving narratives and create new shared ones.

Art as language, proposing different ways of expression, has the potential to be a powerful evocative tool able to solicit and open new ways of telling and live in the same neighborhood. Therefore is necessary a participatory art, or even better, that meets the present culture of the area to assess the resources through which intervene to develop.

How to do all this? The proposal is to recover the territory commission of artwork, the function that NOEO has in TRAME by meeting, talking and exchanging with citizens in order to grasp the local culture and propose it to the artist as a request of the territory. In this sense, when participatory and social, art is a tool for the district as an interpreter of history, is a foreign language and manufacturer of a resource on which to develop, in perspective, productivity and change. ”
