“Scuola di Libertà” is a project designed to promote the themes and values of the Liberation of April 25th inside italian schools through art. The artistic mode selected is mural painting and street art, contemporary visual tools which are very close to the young generations.
The MIUR and the Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri have selected 9 cities scattered throughout the peninsula, and as much schools, based on the historical connections with the day of liberation: all the chosen places have experienced extraordinary and dramatic situations during the days of the Resistance, symbol of an Italy that can face great challenges together. Each school has selected 15 students allowing them to confront physically with a public participated project with artists usually working on projects that elect the city as protagonist for their interventions.
WALLS coordinated the workshop and selected the nine contemporary artists, street artists of national and international reputation, who have accepted the challenge of dealing with the youth of the Italian schools: Alessandro DADO Ferri, Davide Andreazza, Giulio Bonasera, Guerrilla Spam, Mr.Fijodor, Mr.Thoms, Marco GUE, Marco Milaneschi, Nemos.
The project was structured in two phases: the workshop aims to deepen the themes of liberation through their symbolic and graphics representation to provide the tools for understanding and creating a point of view, even critical, about the street art phenomenon. Defined the final project has started the realization phase during which students have effectively made the work under the supervision of the artist. With this modality the students were not simply stimulated in thematic research and content but faced the difficulties and technical needs that led them to a deeper and more conscious, not only historical, but also practical and professional.
